Lauren Swant
- Department Chair
- Director of the Nursing Program and Associate Professor
Lauren earned her Master's of Science in Nursing Education from Indiana State University and her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh, where she is currently enrolled in her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Health Sciences Executive Leadership. She has also earned certifications as a Certified Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse and a Certified Nurse Educator.
Maria Brosnan
- Associate Professor - Nursing
Professor Brosnan earned her Master's Degree in Nursing at Rush University of Chicago, a Post-Graduate Degree at Frontier Nursing University, and her Baccalaureate of Science degree at Loyola University of Chicago.
Meagan Hogue
- Assistant Professor of Nursing
Meagan earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Montana State University - Bozeman and her Master of Nursing Education Degree from Western Governors University. She has practiced as a Mother-Baby nurse and NICU nurse, with a special passion for educating new parents and caring for premature infants.
Janet Johnson
- Assistant Professor - Nursing
Janet earned her Master of Science in Nursing-Nursing Education from Benedictine University and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Carroll College. Janet has practiced in adult medical surgical and medical/cardiac intensive care units.
Melissa Lewis
- Assistant Professor - Nursing
Melissa earned her Master's Degree in Nursing Education at University of Phoenix and Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Arizona State University, Phoenix, Arizona. Her background includes over 13 years at Mayo Clinic Arizona working in the Intensive Care Unit, Post Anesthesia Care and Pain Management. Melissa spent over 2 years as a RN Team Leader in the Pain Clinic.
Katherine Pieper
- Assistant Professor of Nursing
Since becoming a nurse, Kate has practiced in pediatric home health, emergency medicine as well as intensive care, med/surg, cardiac and hospital administration. Her primary passion has been emergency medicine which is where she has spent most of her career.
Magdalene Collins
- Associate Professor - Nursing
Dr. Maddie Collins, Associate Professor, is an immigrant from Liberia, West Africa who came to Montana at the age of 16 as a foreign exchange student from 1983-1984. She graduated from Helena High and returned to Liberia in 1984.
April Boitano
- Associate Professor - Nursing
April earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Frontier Nursing Practice from Frontier University, her Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati, and Bachelors of Science in Nursing from California State University, Sacramento.
Deanna Thompson
- Associate Professor - Nursing
Deanna earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her Master’s in Nursing Degrees from Montana State University Bozeman, her Master’s in Business Administration from Grand Canyon University, Phoenix, AZ, and is currently pursuing her PhD from the University of Arizona.
Meghan Kiser

Meghan began her professional nursing career at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, OR. While there, she found her passion for caring for children and their families.
Karina Hass
- RN Lab/Simulation Facilitator & Clinical Instructor
Karina started her career in healthcare in 2009 as a CNA. While working full time and attending college, she earned her LPN, RN and BSN and has worked in areas spanning Med/Surg, Oncology, Step-down, and Intensive Care.
Terri John
- Administrative Specialist, Nursing
Terri John, BA, has provided administrative support for the Department of Nursing since 1999. She is an alum of Carroll College (1985) whose special interests include qigong, creative writing, reading, hiking, nature, holistic health, and spirituality.
