Two Online MSW Program Tracks
Our online MSW program offers two convenient tracks based on your previous education.
H3 : Traditional Track
The traditional social work degree track is for those with an undergraduate degree in a subject other than social work. This social work master’s program online option is 60 credit hours. Working full-time, you can complete our traditional social work degree track in just 21 months. A part-time option is also available.
H3: Advanced-Standing Track
Our advanced-standing track is structured for those who already have an undergraduate degree in social work (BSW or BSSW) from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited program and are interested in developing their skills and knowledge to increase professional opportunities. You can complete this 30-credit-hour option in just nine months of full-time study.
Discover our Master of Social Work Courses
Carroll’s online MSW program includes generalist and specialized curricula. If you are a traditional student, you will complete both. However, advanced-standing students with an undergraduate degree in social work (BSW or BSSW) only complete our specialized curriculum.
Our traditional track includes social work courses that focus on building foundational social work knowledge, skills, and experiences. Our generalist social work curriculum includes:
- Generalist Practice I - Individuals and Families
- Generalist Practice II - Groups, Organizations, and Communities
- Human Behavior and the Social Environment
- Diversity and Social Justice
- Policy and Advocacy in Social Work Practice
- Research for Social Work Practice
When you graduate with your social work degree from Carroll College, you’ll be prepared to serve the immediate needs of your clients and help communities find solutions to critical social issues.
Specialized MSW Courses
Specialized courses included in Carroll’s online MSW program equip you with the knowledge and skills needed for ethical and effective direct clinical practice with individuals, families, and groups. Specialized courses include:
- Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis
- Substance Use and Co-occurring Disorders
- Leadership and Management
- Mindfulness Practices
- Field Practicums and seminars
Completing specialized courses equips graduates with the theories, practices, and techniques needed to provide effective mental health services to diverse client populations in a variety of practice settings. Our specialized curriculum also provides a strong foundation for independent clinical licensure, typically the LCSW credential.
