About the Program
To address these problems, Carroll College offers a clinically-focused, online Master of Social Work (MSW) program that educates and trains students to use evidence-based interventions to serve individuals, families, and groups in need of high-quality health, behavioral health, substance use, and social services.
Benefits of Carroll’s MSW program
Clinical Focus
In Carroll's MSW program, you will receive highly individualized training needed to address complex mental health needs presented by clients and patients. Our program is grounded in four emphasis areas: trauma-informed/resilience-focused care, integrated behavioral health care, evidence-based practice, and professional leadership.
Accessible & Flexible
- Online courses that combine synchronous and asynchronous learning;
- Intensive skill-development sessions - offered online or in-person - that help you refine the knowledge and skills needed to provide effective services.
- Individualized internship experiences that provide cutting-edge opportunities to integrate knowledge and skills learned in the classroom with actual practice.
Career-Minded
We leverage all of Carroll College's resources to help you jump-start your career as a clinical social worker. Our program also provides the knowledge and skills needed to pursue an advanced clinical social work license.
Advanced-Standing Option
Do you have a BSW or BSSW degree from an accredited social work program? You may be eligible for advanced standing, completing your MSW in as little as 9 months. If you don't qualify for advanced standing, you can still complete our traditional MSW program in as little as 21 months.
Part-Time Option
We understand not everyone can complete our program full-time so we offer a number of part-time pathways for completing our program.

Field Education
We've partnered with non-profits and health care providers across Montana to provide students with outstanding internship opportunities. If you live outside Montana, we can identify an excellent internship opportunity where you are.

Weekend Intensives
Five times each year, we come together for intensive skill development and inter-professional education activities. For the 2022-2023 academic year, we offered an online intensive option for those unable to travel to campus.
