We are a graduate social work program that trains social workers to provide specialized services to clients impacted by mental health challenges, substance use, physical illness, and other social problems. Recognizing the severe shortage of mental health service providers across the country, our curriculum explicitly seeks to prepare students for independent, clinical licensure.
About the Program
Our program's mission is to prevent and solve serious social problems impacting vulnerable and underserved individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities in Montana, across the U.S., and throughout the world. Consistent with Carroll's motto, Not for School, But for Life, when you join our social work community, we're with you long after graduation.
Benefits of Carroll’s MSW program
In Carroll's MSW program, you will receive highly individualized training needed to address complex mental health needs presented by clients and patients. Our program is grounded in four emphasis areas: trauma-informed/resilience-focused care, integrated behavioral health care, evidence-based practice, and professional leadership.
Accessible & Flexible
- Online courses that combine synchronous and asynchronous learning;
- Intensive skill-development sessions - offered online or in-person - that help you refine the knowledge and skills needed to provide effective services.
- Individualized internship experiences that provide cutting-edge opportunities to integrate knowledge and skills learned in the classroom with actual practice.
We leverage all of Carroll College's resources to help you jump-start your career as a clinical social worker. Our program also provides the knowledge and skills needed to pursue an advanced clinical social work license.
Do you have a BSW or BSSW degree from an accredited social work program? You may be eligible for advanced standing, completing your MSW in as little as 9 months. If you don't qualify for advanced standing, you can still complete our traditional MSW program in as little as 21 months.
We understand not everyone can complete our program full-time so we offer a number of part-time pathways for completing our program.
We've partnered with non-profits and health care providers across Montana to provide students with outstanding internship opportunities. If you live outside Montana, we can identify an excellent internship opportunity where you are.
Five times each year, we come together for intensive skill development and inter-professional education activities. For the 2022-2023 academic year, we offered an online intensive option for those unable to travel to campus.
