About the American Society of Civil Engineers

Founded in 1852, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) represents more than 150,000 members of the civil engineering profession in 177 countries. It is America's oldest national engineering society. ASCE stands at the forefront of a profession that plans, designs, constructs, and operates society’s economic and social engine – the built environment – while protecting and restoring the natural environment.

ASCE’s Vision

Civil engineers are global leaders building a better quality of life.

ASCE’s Mission

Carroll College ASCE Student Chapter Objective

ASCE photo 1The members of Carroll College’s American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter are a group of students that plan to uphold the ideals and responsibilities of ASCE.  The main objective of the ASCE Student Chapter is to help students prepare themselves for entry into the Civil Engineering profession and into society as a whole.  The objective is met through learning opportunities and participation in student activities, shown below.

Student Chapter Learning Opportunities

ASCE photo 2Chapter members have the opportunity to participate in numerous activities that advance their skills as students and future engineers. Students active in ASCE learn to:

  • Become leaders using organizational, technical, communication, and management skills;
  • Interact with other members in the student chapter, local engineering community, and with state and national ASCE members;
  • Organize and conduct fundraising activities for chapter activities;
  • Experience technical challenges with civil engineering projects and volunteer efforts; and
  • Work effectively with students and professionals from different professions in a variety of settings.
