The Michael Murphy Award for Outstanding Collegiate Citizenship is presented annually at Commencement to the graduating senior who, through leadership, service, and personal example, best represents the character and ideals of Carroll College while exemplifying strong academic ability.
Faculty, staff, and students are invited to nominate a student(s) that they believe are deserving of this esteemed award. Nominations will be reviewed by a Selection Committee that is made up of faculty, staff, and student representatives. To nominate a graduating senior for this award, please complete this form.
Michael Murphy was a Carroll student who would have graduated in 1965. Mike was a very charismatic person who came to Carroll from Bozeman Rosary High School and played football for the Fighting Saints. In his junior year, Mike received a head injury in a football game, and later died as a result of this injury. His death was a great shock to all at Carroll at the time. The Michael Murphy Award for Outstanding Collegiate Citizenship was established in his name shortly after his death. The award recognizes a senior student with strong academic ability, a well-known student, and one who thinks of others rather than one's self. In recent years all of those qualities plus having an "outreach" mission such as helping others off-campus, etc. was also stressed.
The nomination deadline is March 22, 2024, by 5:00 p.m.
