Peer Ministers

What is A Peer Minister?

Campus Ministry has a group of 14 students who live in the residence halls called Peer Ministers. These peer ministers carry on the tradition of fostering fellowship and goodwill on campus, work in building community on the floors, and help in creating a positive campus atmosphere for students.

Each Peer Minister considers themself a resource to assist and counsel other students when needed. They also lead small groups, but these may not always take the “customary” bible study form.

Grace Steele, a senior majoring in elementary education from Wasougal, Washington, co-led a Bible study in which yarn and the Gospels intertwined.

Some of the girls were interested in doing crafts, so we taught everyone how to knit, and we would talk about the Gospels as we knit. We made quite a few scarves as a result and gave them to a local homeless shelter called 'God’s Love.'

Most importantly, though, these students are available to be a presence encouraging faith on campus. Peer Ministers encourage students to make their relationship with God an important part of their journey at Carroll.

Hello friends, I'm Elissa Mazkour, and I am from Beirut, Lebanon. I'm a senior this year majoring in BIology with a hope of going to grad school at some point for Genetic counseling or genetic research. For all my life I've wanted to be there for my friends and family, but even strangers or people who are just in need of anything. This year I am hoping to get to know you all better and to build a good friendship through Christ and expand our understanding of His love for us. From music, adventures and late night talks, I am ready for a great year of growth and amazing friendships. Never hesitate to reach out :)

Hello! My name is Macie Frans, and I am the PM serving on 4th floor Charlie's! I am also a junior this year studying Biochemistry. A few random facts about myself: I am a terrible cook, a pretty decent tutor if you ever need help with homework, and I tend to sing or hum when I'm in my room or walking through the hallways (at least you'll hear me coming haha). And of course, I love the Lord and am here to share Him the ones He puts into my life :)

Some things you should know about me that are super essential: I LOVE peanut butter-it’s seriously an issue and perhaps my favorite food of all time. I also love to have a great cup of tea or coffee and a wonderful chat-but I’m not only an indoors person (although I love to paint and embroider and knit)-I also love playing volleyball, hiking, skiing, and riding horses! I also work at Big Dipper-so feel free to stop by anytime to visit and grab an ice cream (even if it’s in December!). It’s going to be amazing pursuing the Lord together!

  • 2nd: Luke Ostberg

LHello, my name is Luke Ostberg, and I will be a junior here and the peer minister on 2nd floor Charles this year. I am excited to get to know you all! Some things to know about me: I am a Philosophy-Catholic Studies-Spanish guy, I grew up in Fairfield, Montana, I got a little sister who will be a freshman at Carroll this next year, I love playing basketball, being outside in nature, doing music-related things like playing drums, listening to music, or playing the organ, going on explorative adventures every now and then, and I am quite passionate about Jesus and his role as Savior in my life. I had a reversion to the faith in my junior year of high school, and since then God has led me further and further into relation with Him, surprising me in many ways with awesome friends, people I have met along the way, and experiences only possible through those also alive with Christ. I hope you guys are excited for this year, and I will see you around campus! Always feel free to say hi; I love getting to know people, too. Till then, adios (literally means "it is to God when we meet again")!

  • 2nd: Andrew Devine

    And

Hi my name is Andrew Devine. I am a Junior, from Wasilla, Alaska, studying philosophy and history. I also play football here as an offensive lineman, which basically just means that I block people. I come from a big family in which I am the sixth out of eight siblings. Growing up, we were always playing sports, so naturally I love to compete. I love playing spikeball, ultimate frisbee, basketball, catan, and cards. I absolutely enjoy learning and doing so with other people. I am passionate about all things true but namely Jesus Christ who literally is the Truth. This is the reason why I am a Peer minister because I want to share that Truth with others.

I’m from Columbia Falls Montana and enjoy being outside constantly. If you’re ever up for a crazy adventure, I’m your guy. My favorite prayer is the rosary and I always have something to talk about so swing by if you need a break from homework. I’m also a sucker for cookies or anything baked so if you have left overs 3rd Charlie’s should be your next stop.
