Dr. William (Jerry) Berberet Endowed Scholarship

The Dr. William (Jerry) Berberet Endowed Scholarship in History recognizes outstanding history majors with professional promise.

The renewable scholarship shall be awarded to students who meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Full-time
  • Preference to a student from Montana
  • Preference to a student with demonstrated financial need as determined by institutional and/or federal criteria (FAFSA)
  • Declared history major
  • Minimum 3.50 in required history courses, and overall GPA a minimum of 3.25
  • Recipient selected by the history department in spring semester of the sophomore year to be awarded for the junior year and renewable for the senior year if grade requirement is met. Students must have completed a minimum of 36 credit hours to be eligible.
  • Demonstrated promise for career in history as determined by the history department
  • Award shall be $1,000 annually.

Deadline to apply to the history department is February 23 at 5:00 PM.

Carroll Undergraduate Scholarships - Schnitzler Heritage Scholarship

The Schnitzler Heritage Scholarship shall be an annual, endowed scholarship for Montana students with financial need.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Academic integrity, maintaining a minimum of 3.00 grade point average
  • Preference will be given to Montana students from Roosevelt and Sheridan counties, but may be awarded to other qualified Montana students.
  • Students receiving athletic scholarships are not eligible
  • Students who have not completed more than five years of full college credits
  • The recipient must be willing to accept an internship at the Montana Historical Society (coordinate with Carroll College internship coordinator and the history department)

The time requirement is 126 hours for a 3-credit internship. This is approximately 10 hours a week for fall term. Students would earn 3 credits and would receive a $1,500 Schnitzler Scholarship for the academic year (divided between terms- $750 fall term and $750 spring term).

Opportunities for Graduate Funding - James Madison Graduate Fellowship

James Madison Graduate Fellowship is targeted to upperclassmen and recent graduates who plan to become secondary school social studies teachers. The James Madison Fellowship, a federal program, offers pre-service (as well as in-service) teachers of government and history up to $24,000 to complete a Master’s degree in fields related to the US Constitution. Awardees are expected to teach for at least two years after completing the program.
