The application requires that you submit an essay explaining how this seminar will benefit you professionally. The essay should address the following in no more than 1,000 words:
your effectiveness and commitment as an educator;
your intellectual interests as they relate to the topic of this seminar;
your special perspectives, skills, or experiences that would contribute to this seminar; and
evidence that participation will have a long-term impact on students.
You will also be asked to submit a resume or CV.
Applications are due on March 1, 2022.
Applicants will be notified regarding their selection on March 25, 2022.

Once an applicant has accepted an offer to attend any NEH Summer Program (Seminar, Institute, or Landmark), they may not accept an additional offer or withdraw in order to accept a different offer.
Selection Criteria
Prior to completing an application to Re-enchanting Nature: Humanities Perspectives, please review the project website and consider carefully what is expected in terms of residence and attendance, reading requirements, and general participation in the work of the project.
Priority consideration is given to those who have not previously attended an NEH Seminar or Institute. When choices must be made between equally qualified candidates, preference is given to those who would enhance the diversity of the program.
Given the nature of our seminar, we are also particularly interested in applicants who desire collaboration between the humanities and STEM fields.
Stipends and Expectations
Teachers selected to participate in the seminar will receive a stipend of $2,850. Half of this amount will be disbursed at the beginning of the seminar. The remaining half will be disbursed at the end of the second week of the seminar. Stipends are taxable income.
Stipends are intended to defray the costs of travel to and from Helena, accommodations during the seminar, meals, books, and ordinary living expenses. Supplements will not be given in cases where the stipend is insufficient to cover all expenses.
Project applicants who accept an offer to participate are expected to remain during the entire period of the program and to participate in its work on a full-time basis. If a participant is obliged through special circumstances to depart before the end of the program, it shall be the recipient institution’s responsibility to see that only a pro rata share of the stipend is received or that the appropriate pro rata share of the stipend is returned if the participant has already received the full stipend.
Participants are required to submit a project evaluation at the seminar's completion.
Dismissal from the Program: All NEH Summer Scholars are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times. This requires a respectful attitude toward fellow participants, faculty, guest lecturers, and others in all settings (program sessions, field trips, etc.). Unprofessional behavior will not be tolerated and egregious or repeated violations of this principle will be considered grounds for dismissal from the program at the discretion of the Project Directors. Reasons for dismissal may include, but are not limited to, repeated absences from scheduled activities and disruptive or threatening behavior.
