About

Carolyn grew up in Helena, Montana, and graduated from Carroll College in 2004. She majored in Political Science while minoring in Philosophy and English. She currently resides in Vancouver, British Columbia as the principle of St. Jude School.

In addition to her B.A. in Political Science from Carroll College, Carolyn also received her Bachelors of Education from Simon Fraser University in 2016, and got her Master in Catholic Educational Leadership from St. Mark's College in 2025.

Why did you choose to attend Carroll?

Carroll was my first choice because of its location in Helena, the capital of Montana. I wanted to do an internship at the state legislature because of my interest in politics.

Who influenced you most during your time at Carroll?

I was greatly influenced by the Campus Ministry team during my time at Carroll. My freshman year I was heavily involved in Focus and I was a Kirchen (peer) minister starting in my sophomore year. I can honestly say that my faith flourished at Carroll and I found a love for Jesus and for myself as a child of God.

Share your best college memory

Late night adventures after late night dinner at the cafeteria were always a blast. We would take a break from studying to get a bite to eat and then go exploring around the campus and the city!

What is the most important thing you learned while you were at Carroll?

Carroll taught me that communities are stronger when everyone's voice is valued. My smaller class sizes meant that we could get to the heart of the matter during class discussions and the professors were caring and invaluable advisors and mentors.

What advice do have for current students who want to make the most out or their experience at Carroll?

Don't forget to step out of the classroom and library and see what the world has to offer. I did a study abroad trip at Carroll that provided me with memories I will forever cherish.

Describe Carroll in three words

Support. Opportunity. Faith.

Describe your career path

Funnily enough my time at Carroll made me realize that I wanted to be an educator myself. I ended up teaching in elementary schools before moving to Vancouver, BC and going back to school for my Bachelor of Education. I ended up teaching in China and in an international school in Canada before finding my way back to Catholic schools and becoming the Principal of an Elementary school.

How did your education at Carroll prepare you for what you are doing today?

Carroll gave me the confidence to follow my heart and listen to the Holy Spirit while giving me the education to handle whatever the world throws at me.

What is your greatest professional accomplishment?

My greatest professional accomplishment is finally fulfilling my dream of being a principal so I can help lead others to God through Catholic Education.

What advice would you give current students or recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in your professional field?

Try to get as much life experience as you can--you can only find so much in a book!

What is something people may not know about you?

I became a curler when I moved to Canada!
