Scholarships

In 1920, three branch members established a student loan fund.  By 1965, that loan fund had evolved into the scholarship fund.

Today AAUW-Great Falls funds two types of scholarships for Cascade County Women.

The Baccalaureate/Graduate Scholarship (Traditional) is for a junior, senior or graduate woman and is awarded in the spring.  AAUW_application_2019

Applicant requirements:

  1. Must be a female resident of Cascade County for a minimum of 6 months.
  2. Must be a full time college JUNIOR, SENIOR, OR GRADUATE STUDENT STARTING IN FALL SEMESTER 2019.
  3. Must have a current minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  4. Must have at least 2 semesters of school remaining.
  5. May receive the award only once.

Application requirements:

  1. Submit a completed application. (3 pages attached)
  2. Submit current college transcript (official or non-official) plus transcripts from any previous colleges attended.
  3. Submit a personal, signed statement (300-words maximum) stating your professional goals and how past, present, and future activities affect them.
  4. Must have at least two semesters of school remaining.
  5. Submit 2 current academic and 1 personal letters of reference. These can be mailed separately by the letter writers.

The Scholarship Committee will rate each applicant on these criteria:

  1. Scholastic achievement – maximum 25 points
  2. Personal statement – maximum 25 points
  3. Community service/activities – maximum 10 points
  4. Financial need – maximum 20 points
  5. Reference letters – maximum 20 points

The Associate Degree Scholarship for women who are nontraditional students working on an Associate Degree.  The Associate Degree Scholarship is awarded in the fall.

The Branch proctors and scores the scholarship essays for Centene.

Centene Scholarship Application 2019

Eligibility:       The applicant must be a senior graduating in School Year 2018-2019 from a Great Falls high school or a high school located within a 70-mile radius of Great Falls.  Private and parochial high school seniors are also eligible.

Seniors who have been awarded a Presidential Scholarship or a Montana University System Honors Scholarship are not eligible for the Centene Scholarship.

To receive the scholarship, the student must be enrolled in Fall Semester 2019 as a full-time student in a public or private college or university located in Montana.  Students enrolling in one of Montana’s two-year colleges (colleges of technology, community colleges, or tribal colleges) are also eligible.

Basis for Selection:

The Centene Scholarship Committee will rate each applicant based on these criteria:

  • Number of high school credits and GPA through the 7th semester (50%)
  • Score on impromptu essay (50%)

Students applying for the Centene Scholarship must submit the following preliminary application materials by March 1st, 2019.

  • a completed scholarship application ; and
  • an official high school transcript including all coursework through the 7th semester of high school.

Applicants must write a timed response to an impromptu essay question drawing on their experience, reflections, and/or knowledge of life in North Central Montana.

Timelines:       Preliminary application materials must be postmarked no later than March 1, 2019

To win the Centene Scholarship, you must write a response to an impromptu essay question in a session administered by a designated proctor at University of Providence, 1301 20th Street South, Great Falls, MT.  (By pre-arrangement other sites may be possible, but in order to keep the essay topic secure, the date of the essay response session cannot be changed.)  The essay response session will be on Saturday, March 30th, 2019 (Session 1 from 10:00 am to noon or Session 2 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm) at University of Providence, 1301 20th Street South, Sullivan Hall Room 101, Great Falls, MT.  Students who have not submitted Preliminary Application Materials will not be admitted to the essay response session.
