Lauren Swant, DNP, MSN, RNC-NIC, CNE, CPHQ - Associate Professor and Director of the Nursing Program

Lauren Swant earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Health Sciences Executive Leadership from the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, her Master of Science in Nursing Education from Indiana State University and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh. She has also earned certifications as a Certified Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse (RNC-NIC), a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE), and a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).

Her diverse nursing background includes 13 years as a neonatal intensive care nurse (NICU), working in NICUs in New York and Montana, and transporting critically ill infants as a member of the NICU Mercy Flight team with Benefis Health Systems. She has also had the privilege of teaching LPN and RN students at Great Falls College - Montana State University, spending the last two years of her time there as the Nursing Program Director.

Courses taught: Maternal/Child, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Nursing Comprehensive Review.

In an effort to promote efficiency and influence positive patient, employee, and student outcomes, her most recent research has focused on (1) the impact of improved interprofessional and intraprofessional communication on patient outcomes; (2) the development of systems-level interventions to address nursing faculty vacancies; and (3) policy analyses of the impact legislating nurse-to-patient ratios would have on the economics, process flow, and patient outcomes in Montana Healthcare systems.

Outside of work, Lauren enjoys spending time with her husband and two young children traveling and exploring the outdoors through hiking, mountaineering, rock climbing, and skiing.
