Congratulations to Director of Nursing, Associate Professor Lauren Swant who completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Health Systems Executive Leadership from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Nursing in December 2023. She is pictured here with Laura Fennimore, DNP, RN, CNE, NEA-BC, FAAN, one of the lead faculty for the program.

"Lifelong learning is truly one of my core values and achieving this terminal degree is something for which I am very proud. The program focused heavily on understanding organizational behavior; implementing evidence-based management, practice, and quality improvement; integrating leadership in complex systems; utilizing principles of finance and healthcare economics; facilitating health policy; and incorporating data analytics and population health into clinical systems design. This program has stretched my understanding of what it means to be a leader and has helped shape how I show up in my role as the Director of Nursing at Carroll College each and every day. Pursuing my DNP was definitely a lesson in perseverance and resilience! With less than 3% of nurses having completed a terminal degree in their field, I am honored to be a part of this group."

Her dissertation sought to evaluate the projected impact of legislating nurse staffing in Montana on hospital economics, process flow, and hospital-associated infections. Her manuscript detailing her findings has been accepted for publication in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Nursing Administration, the authoritative source of information on developments and advances in patient care leadership.
