Master of Accountancy Program in its Third Year

We are looking forward to the May 2021 commencement of the third class of successful Master of Accountancy (MACC) students. In 2018, the MACC program became the first master’s program launched at Carroll College. It is an exciting time for accounting graduates. Accountants remain in high demand in the workforce. In June 2020, LinkedIn listed accountants (CPAs) as the number one job with the fastest growing demand and CPAs were among the top 10 of most in-demand jobs.

Current MACC student George Nemie shared that “Carroll College’s MACC program has been an absolutely amazing experience for me. Not only has it allowed me the opportunity to fine-tune and expand my knowledge of accounting, but it has also given me the ability to sit for the CPA exam. Participating in the MACC has been my best academic decision thus far.”

Students in Carroll’s MACC program are able to sit for sections of the CPA exam throughout the program. The MACC program also exposes students to leading-edge topics such as environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting. In addition to the subjects required for the CPA exam, the specialized MACC curriculum at Carroll includes ethical leadership, not-for-profit accounting, and forensic (fraud) accounting. Upon completion of the program, students have completed the 150 credit hours required for CPA licensure while also gaining the breadth and depth of knowledge necessary to become trusted business advisors in the increasingly complex and dynamic business and not-for-profit world.

“The professors are excellent and helpful, the material is vivid and interesting, and the work is challenging, yet rewarding,” continued Nemie.

The MACC program is fully online and was designed to be flexible for both working professionals and traditional college students. Although the MACC program is online, students engage with each other throughout the program in a variety of experiences and discussions. Full-time students complete the program in one year, but students have the option of enrolling part-time. Traditional Carroll College accounting majors can complete their four-year undergraduate degree followed by the one-year MACC. In addition, the program was designed with a unique 3+1 accelerated plan for highly motivated students with AP credits, transfer courses, and summer courses.

"The MACC program at Carroll College has offered an avenue for me to continue my education in a flexible and condensed manner," said MACC graduate Rocky Crandell. "This is what sets it apart from other comparable programs that require a more drawn out two-year master's program."

The MACC delivers courses online in the summer, fall, and spring semesters with one virtual weekend residency in June. Courses are offered in a block format, which allows students to focus on only one or two courses at a time. Summer classes are delivered in either three or five-week formats and the remaining half-semester courses are approximately eight weeks in length.

"The MACC program at Carroll provided the tools I needed to pass the CPA exams,” said MACC graduate Rachel Schanz. “Those tools have also opened up career opportunities that would not otherwise be possible. I am a better accountant because of the MACC program!"

Members of the Carroll College Business Advisory Council, Wipfli, LLP, and Anderson ZurMuehlen & Co., P.C. provided support to help launch the program.
