NATIONAL ACCOLADES
Although our Fighting Saints exited the NAIA National Basketball Championships sooner than we would have hoped, several exciting things happened following the tournament.

NEW YORK TIMES
First, senior men’s captain Ryan Imhoff was one of two players interviewed in a New York Times article – 32 Teams, 7 Days, 1 Gym: For true madness, see the N.A.I.A. basketball tournament in Kansas City – about the unique and special qualities of the NAIA Championship Tournament.

NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Secondly, and most impressively, Imhoff was named the NAIA National Player of the Year – the first time ever a Carroll basketball player has earned this honor.
"This award is not all me," Imhoff said. "It is coaching staff. It is my team. It is everyone involved in the program. To be trusted to be the captain of this group and to have everyone's trust as a leader is a great honor and I am glad that I could follow through and earn this honor."

ALL-AMERICANS
Several other Saints received All-American status as well. On the women’s team, junior Hannah Dean earned All-American Second Team having led the Saints in every major statistical category and finishing 12th in NAIA DI in total blocks, while teammates seniors Michaela Dowdy and Bailey Pasta earned Honorable Mention All-American. Junior Match Burnham earned Honorable Mention All-American on the men’s side as well.

Congratulations to all the players and coaches on a spectacular season!
HONORING LIFE & LIVES LOST
Approximately 100 Carroll students, faculty, staff and community members joined with students across the nation on March 14 to honor the memory of the 17 people killed by a school shooter in Parkland, Florida, as well remember all those affected by gun violence. The peaceful gathering, organized by junior Emily Larson, included an opening statement by Interim President Fr. Stephen Rowan on the dignity of life, followed by Carroll student Izzy Geraghty, a native of Las Vegas, who shared her personal story on the impacts the Las Vegas shooting has had on friends and family. Students also shared recollections from the Parkland survivors, followed by a minute of silence.
“By reaching out with compassion, with prayer, with works of mercy, by doing something then we will have done what we can to reestablish the vision for society that respects life, protects life and seeks for ways for all people to flourish in peace and safety,” shared Fr. Rowan.

Carroll has been hosting Facebook live sessions with our professors to better acquaint prospective students with the incredible academic programs available at Carroll. SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
Carroll held their annual Scholarship Recognition Event February 18 & 19 which celebrates applicants who through their academic achievements have received a Trustee, Presidential or Bishop Carroll Scholarship ranging from $16,000-$19,000 per year.  Despite challenging weather for travel, there was a great turn-out of recipients including the five students pictured above, three of whom serve on the Catholic Youth Coalition Board. This program celebrates the prospective students' hard work and also gives them an opportunity to spend time on campus learning about Carroll's academic programs and student life.
