Dr. John Cech is pleased to share that Jay Nelson is joining us as the new Director of Campus Safety and Security, starting Monday, April 22. Jay is replacing Jason Grimmis, who was hired in 2020 as our first director in this position.
Jay brings to our campus over 25 years of experience in law enforcement, primarily with the Montana Highway Patrol. Throughout his impressive career, he has held various leadership and training positions focused on safety and security. Since 2020, Jay has been the Public Information Officer, where he has skillfully handled communications for both internal and external audiences across Montana.
A proud alumnus of Carroll, Jay graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Chemistry. He impressed us during his interviews with his qualifications and enthusiasm for this role. He expressed his eagerness to support our students and give back to the college that has meant so much to him and his family.
Jay’s employment at Carroll coincides with his retirement from the Montana Highway Patrol after 26 years of service. The Helena IR wrote a nice feature on Jay in Thursday’s newspaper. It can be read here: 'My work here is done': MHP Sgt. Jay Nelson retires after 26 years.
Please join us in warmly welcoming Jay and his family to our community.
