From Helena to Hong Kong

Carey Phelan, Senior, Nursing

What do Butte, Arizona and Hong Kong all have in common?  They are each on senior nursing student Carey Phelan’s travel itinerary in the next five months!

Carey has been selected for an oral presentation of her nursing honors thesis “Nurses’ Commitment and Motivation to Improved Personal Health: The Role of Hospital Administration” at the 25th International Nursing Research Congress in Hong Kong on July 24-28, 2014, where she will be collaborating with nursing scholars from around the world.

Carey has also been invited to present her thesis as a poster presentation at the Mayo Clinic’s 2014 Nursing Research Conference Improving Health Through Self-Management in Phoenix, Ariz., on March 7, 2014.  In addition, she was an award winner in the Montana Academy of Science’s (MAS) 2013 Student Research Grant Program and in turn will be presenting her findings at the 2014 MAS Annual Meeting this April in Butte.

“Carey is an outstanding student who has been a joy to work with,” says Professor Jennifer Elison, chair of the department of nursing.  In speaking about Carey’s acceptance to the prestigious Sigma Theta Tau International research conference in Hong Kong, Professor Elison says, “This is a huge accomplishment as there were hundreds of proposals submitted and she, as an undergrad, has been selected to do an oral presentation. I am so very proud of her!”

We are extremely proud of the exceptional work being done by our students on Carroll’s campus.  Carey is an excellent example of the calibre of student that Carroll aspires to send out into the world to help improve lives and make a difference.

Congratulations Carey!  We applaud you on this notable accomplishment.
