Recognizing that our utmost priority is to ensure the health, safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff, the college is sharing the following update on our campus operations.
After thoughtful consideration and additional information regarding the spread of COVID-19 (aka novel coronavirus), we have determined that Carroll will move forward with online/distance delivery of our curriculum beginning on March 23.
The health and safety of Carroll community members remains our top priorities. Since the beginning of this outbreak, our campus leaders have been continuously evaluating the potential impact on campus as well as implementing measures to promote the well-being of our students, faculty, and staff. Throughout our decision-making process, we have considered guidance from public health authorities, members of our campus and local healthcare teams, and best practices from across the nation. We want to thank all those from across campus who have worked tirelessly to respond to this challenge.
While academics will transition to online instruction, the campus itself will remain open with residence halls and dining services fully operational at this time.
With this decision, the college has moved up the dates for the testing of our online learning capabilities to Tuesday and Wednesday, March 17 and 18. Remote instruction will be fully implemented beginning Monday, March 23 and will continue through Thursday, April 9.
Please see below for additional details:
Classes
March 16-20:
In-person and online testing will be conducted.
- Monday: Classes will be regularly conducted in-person
- Tuesday & Wednesday: Faculty and staff will conduct all their classes online via Zoom and Moodle
- Thursday & Friday: Classes will be regularly conducted in person
This schedule will allow our faculty and students to test and finalize their preparation for remote instruction. Students will receive additional information about the next steps to take in order to carry out this transition to distance learning. We appreciate your patience while we prepare this guidance over the next several days.
March 23-April 9:
Remote instruction via Moodle and Zoom will begin and continue through April 9.
- Faculty will communicate directly with their students on expectations regarding coursework and assignments.
- Students engaged in off-campus experiences (internships, clinicals, student teaching, etc.) will receive further details from their faculty members.
April 14 – May 7:
Currently the college plans to resume campus in-person classes following Easter break. We will be monitoring the situation and will keep you apprised of any changes to this schedule.
Residence Life
The campus will remain open. Students are able to return home during the online instruction period of March 23-April 9, if they wish. Students need to make the best decision they can for their individual circumstance.
Campus Events
The college is suspending all mid- and large-scale events scheduled on campus beginning immediately through Monday, April 13. This includes both college-sponsored and hosted events.
We know that this is a challenging time for everyone. We recognize that these unprecedented actions are disruptive and upsetting to our students and families but we are trying our best in light of the situation to ensure our students are able to complete their coursework this semester and graduate on time. We appreciate your understanding as we navigate these new realities together.
We will host a virtual townhall on Monday, March 16 at 12 p.m. in order to share any new information and answer any questions you may have. We will share details about how to join the virtual townhall in an email this weekend.
We realize that this course of action will result in a number of questions. Please submit your questions at www.carroll.edu/covid19. We ask for your patience as we review and answer your inquiries.
Meanwhile, our campus Incident Command Team will be meeting throughout the weekend and beyond and we will continue to keep you informed as we have additional announcements, please check your email regularly. In addition, as new information becomes available, we will post it to our COVID-19 preparedness webpage.
Sincerely,
John E. Cech, Ph.D.
