Carroll chemistry student participates in German research program

Isabelle Gray in a German Market

Carroll Chemistry student Isabelle Gray had the opportunity to participate in the DAAD Rise Program in Magdeburg, Germany in the summer of 2016. Here her discuss it below:

For my 2016 summer research, I had the opportunity to participate in the DAAD Rise Program in Magdeburg, Germany.  This program allowed me to work closely with my mentor, a PhD Student, and other graduate level students in the field of Technical Chemistry.  Over the course of the summer I was able to work with my mentor on her research in Zeolite Coating of Ceramic Foams, use new instruments for analysis, attend lectures by students presenting master thesis as well as participating at a DAAD conference in Heidelberg.  As this research was in an academic setting, I also learned how to collaborate with other scientists and how to apply to a graduate program in Europe.

This past summer gave me the chance to further my knowledge in the field of research as well as giving me the chance to travel across Germany and make amazing friends along the way.  I am very thankful to Carroll College for bringing this extraordinary opportunity to my attention and to the Chemistry faculty for preparing me with a well-established chemistry background and a willingness to learn.
