Join us at Carroll College on October 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Lower Campus Center for Your Vote Matters: Expert Insights on the Election & Ballot Process. This informative, nonpartisan panel brings together experts from various fields to shed light on the election process and the importance of voting. With decades of experience in politics, military service, and academia, panelists will share their insights on voting, elections, and the democratic process. The event includes a moderated discussion, followed by a Q&A session, offering attendees the opportunity to ask questions and engage in meaningful dialogue.

This event is free and open to the public.

Panel Members

David Hunter

David Hunter has worked in Montana and national democratic politics for 40 years.  He has run campaigns for Governor and US Senate in Montana and worked for the national democratic party.  David served in the Schwinden and Schweitzer administrations and as Chief Clerk of the Montana House.  He currently serves as a consultant for the National Democratic Institute.

David Oclander

David graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1990. He served 23 years as an Infantry Officer where he commanded a Parachute Infantry Battalion in the 82nd Airborne Division. David was also a strategic planner on the Joint Staff working for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. After retirement, David completed a Fellowship teaching in Chicago and was a High School Principal in Detroit. Later, David led a nationwide workforce development program for Opportunity Youth. David also served as the CEO of the Helena YMCA. Currently, David is the state co-leader for Veterans for Montana Voters.

Dr. Alex Street

Alex Street is an Associate Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Carroll College, where he has been teaching for ten years.  He grew up in the United Kingdom and has also studied and worked in Germany and Italy.  He has published research on immigration and elections.

Dr. Jeanette M. Fregulia

Jeanette M. Fregulia earned her Ph.D. at the University of Nevada, Reno (2007) in Renaissance Italian History. Her research focuses on merchants and material, cultural, and social exchanges between early modern Italy and the Eastern Mediterranean. In addition, she holds a Masters Degree in Middle East Area Studies from the University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies. Her first book is A Rich and Tantalizing Brew: a History of How Coffee Connected the World (University of Arkansas Press, 2019). Her second book Windows into the Medieval Mediterranean from Taylor and Francis comes out in January 2025.

Dr Allison Dale-Riddle

Dr Allison Dale-Riddle earned her PhD in Political Science from the University of Michigan. She did a lot of great things in American politics and she specializes in Political behavior, political Psychology, research methods, Race and Politics, and Survey research. She currently provides consulting services on political data, program evaluation, research design, and more. She is also a senior advisor for Montanans for Election Reform, a campaign to implement a top-four open primary and majority-winner system in Montana.


Dr. Alan Hansen will be the moderator of this discussion and there will also be a Q&A at the end of the presentations.
