Special Session 12:00 - 2:00, QPR: Question, Persuade, Refer - Gatekeeper certification for suicide prevention, O’Connell 107

Intended for people from all walks of life, QPR (Question. Persuade. Refer.) is a course designed to teach “gatekeepers” warning signs of a suicidal crisis and how to help. Gatekeepers can include friends, co-workers, supervisors, neighbors, parents, siblings, teachers, coaches, caseworkers, police officers, and firefighters, among many others. The process follows three steps:

(1) Question if a person is considering suicide,
(2) Persuade them to seek and accept help, and
(3) Refer the person to appropriate resources.

As a QPR-trained Gatekeeper you will learn to:
  • Recognize the warning signs of suicide
  • Know how to offer hope
  • Know how to get help and save a life

Mindtap skills training

MindTap is a program created by Beth Demmons, LCSW, Counselor, and Carroll Community Educator, Carroll College Wellness Center. Beth uses evidence-based research in the fields of mental health and wellness to enhance the skills and abilities of people navigating life. The program's objective is to survive and thrive in this environment and develop skills that remain with you as you face life’s challenges and strive to make the world a better place.

Mindtap skills training is offered every Tuesday through the end of the school year from 1:00 to 1:50 pm in the Maronick Room in the Upper Cube. All Carroll community members are invited to attend. Classes are created as stand-alone so that participants can pick and choose which training or presentations they wish to participate in. Find out more about the program.

This program meets every Tuesday throughout the 2024–2025 academic school year.
