About
It has been an odd few months following graduation. The summer was like any other. But as the days wrapped up I did not return to Carroll College like I had the year before. Instead, I unpacked boxes in a rural Montana town known as Glasgow. Labeled the middle of nowhere by Huffington posts and other news outlets I am four hours in any direction from a city. I love it.
I moved here to utilize my degree in English Education. Currently, I teach five classes of Sophomore High School students and one elective named Word Clues. Every day I am lesson planning, running from one end of the building to the next, grading, and then coming home exhausted. They keep me on my toes and I love every moment of it.
I am lucky enough to have received a solid education, especially from the English department at Carroll. I stay in contact with some of my professors and their words of wisdom keep me going! I have incorporated some of my favorite lessons. For example Edith Wharton’s short story “Roman Fever”. My sophomores gobbled it up and were shocked they had never heard of Wharton before! I hadn’t either until Dr. Bernardi shared Wharton’s work and love of Rome with me during my time at Carroll.
“Roman Fever” is but one example of the countless things I learned at Carroll College. The English department helped me prepare for being an educator in so many ways. I have made connections with authors and made life experiences into lessons. I miss my creative writing classes, reading, and writing papers. Things I never knew I would miss!
Thank you to the professors of the English Department for giving me the confidence I needed to become a successful educator.
