I graduated from Carroll College in 2009 with a degree in Television Broadcast & Production with Marketing, and a minor in Communications. During the spring of my senior year, I had the opportunity to intern at the local television station, Beartooth NBC. Although the station is relatively small, this made it a good place for my first taste of television news as I had the opportunity to be involved in nearly every aspect of the production. The tasks I performed ranged from writing stories, shooting, interviewing, covering sporting events, rolling tapes in the production room, editing using the (old-fashioned but still useful) "tape-to-tape" method, as well as editing using software, rewriting wire stories, and even shooting my own anchor segments to use in my resume tape. Although my internship was enjoyable, it was most useful in that it helped me find my forte in the journalism world, writing.
In January 2010, I began my studies in magazine journalism at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. I am thankful for the professors in the Comm department at Carroll for pushing me to set high aspirations for myself, and for encouraging me to go after what I have been realizing I was meant to do all along.
