About
Hannah Hemphill joined Carroll College as an Assistant Professor of Catholic Studies in the Fall of 2020. She received a Ph.D. in Theology with a dissertation on Saint Thomas Aquinas’s understanding of sacrifice (Notre Dame, 2019). She holds master’s degrees in Philosophy (St. Andrews, 2003), Theology (Notre Dame, 2005), and Jewish Studies (Oxford, 2008). Her research interests include the thought of Thomas Aquinas, medieval theology and biblical exegesis, theories of redemption and atonement, the history of Jewish-Catholic relations and dialogue, and the Holy Land. Before coming to Carroll, she served as Academic Director of Notre Dame’s programs in Jerusalem. At Carroll, she thoroughly enjoys teaching Church and Culture, Lives of the Saints, and Sacred Art for the Catholic Studies program.
Hannah and her husband Brian have four children, and as a family, they enjoy the outdoors and reading and rereading The Chronicles of Narnia.
