I graduated from Carroll College in May of 2015. Once I graduated, I accepted a position as a Technical Specialist at Mission Mountain Labs in Missoula, Montana. My role was to manage the technical side of our quality manual in the following departments: microbiological, HPLC, and Heavy Metals. 
More specifically, I ensured quality by performing statistical analysis, maintaining all lab equipment, programming in testing software, and proving our compliance in ISO 17025 standard quality methods. In August of 2016, I started my own business (Cornerstone Consulting Group LLC Missoula, MT) providing ISO 17025 compliance consulting to laboratories in the Northwest region. I’m currently helping the CAMP testing facility at Montana Tech develop an ISO 17025 compliant quality management system. I aid by writing inserts in their Quality Manual, writing Standard Operating Procedures, and general consulting regarding ISO 17025 compliance.
I believe Carroll College has made me a better scientist. The Chemistry program at Carroll College has provided me with tools that larger schools could have never given me. For example, when I started at Mission Mountain Labs I had more experience running analytical instruments than most of my co-workers that graduated from other local schools. My senior year at Carroll gave me the opportunity to independently operate equipment such as: HPLC, FT-IR, 400 MHz Bruker NMR, GC-MS, CV, UV-Vis, and other analytical instrumentation. Not only was I able to get experience running these instruments, as a student I was using these instruments for applications in research. So, hands on experience is one thing Carroll College will provide you with, a major advantage in many industry careers. 
Also, Carroll College groomed me to think like a professional scientist. To elaborate, our curriculum required us to work independently on current research projects that existed in scientific literature. Our professors encouraged us to think outside the box and come up with ideas of how to further the research. The best part about being a chemistry student at Carroll College was this independent work on research. This allowed us to see that failure is not only inevitable but probable, and the key to success in science is using your mind and work ethic to push through and make a discovery. The professors at Carroll are amazing in this way, I would encourage any young scientist to make a commitment to the Chemistry program at Carroll College.
