Congratulations to Carroll College’s Special Olympics Club Athlete Representative Kyle Norman for being awarded Athlete of the Year!

At Special Olympics Montana, the athlete of the year is someone who epitomizes the spirit of a true winner.  
Kyle is a Halo Special Olympics athlete who has gained the respect of others, including: 

  • his teammates, 
  • coaches,
  • the local area management team,  
  • participants in other Special Olympics programs both within Montana and across the nation,
  • others outside of Special Olympics, including members of his community,  
  • and his family and friends.  

Consequently, Kyle is valued by many.  

Kyle, the Athlete of the Year, is an individual living his best life, because he exemplifies virtues we all honor. When describing Kyle, virtues like character, commitment, sportsmanship, inclusion, self-discipline, and friendship come to mind.  
Character – Kyle joined Special Olympics in 2013 and has been going strong the last 11 years. Others look forward to seeing Kyle regularly. He is as a leader and is consistently positive.

Commitment
Kyle is an all-around champion of Special Olympics who participates in all aspects of its mission.  

  • He participates in sports year-round including:  basketball, bowling, athletics, swimming, bocce and soccer.  
  • He is a health champion who gets involved in health challenges like the stride and move challenges and even dance parties.  
  • Beyond sports, health and unified activities, Kyle is always willing to help as needed. Whether it’s training, attending an event, giving a speech, setting up or tearing down, we can count on Kyle no matter what the task at hand is.

Sportsmanship
Kyle is an admirable model for respect and fairness while training and competing.  

  • He is an outstanding teammate.  
  • During practice and competitions, Kyle is clapping and yelling the names of teammates while cheering them on.  
  • Kyle is admired by how he cares deeply about other teammates.

Includer
Kyle wants others to enjoy Special Olympics as much as he does. He is an ambassador that goes out of the way to speak positively and spread the word about what it means to be involved in Special Olympics. Kyle often invites others to get involved and takes pride in going out of the way to include others. 

Self-Discipline
Kyle is an athlete who is taking charge of his own life. He is employed at two different jobs. He is also involved as:

  • a Montana Youth Leadership Forum ambassador,  
  • a Capitol Hill Delegate,  
  • an Athlete Input Council member, 
  • an athlete spokesperson on the Carroll College Executive Board.
