Serving the community is a core element of Carroll College’s mission, and the Hunthausen Center for Peace and Justice offers students the chance to live that out. During last weekend’s Service Saturday, 25 students volunteered at three locations: Good Samaritan, First Christian Church, and Habitat for Humanity.
The day began with muffins, coffee, and a reflection led by Fr. Tyler before students headed out for a morning of service. Those at the Habitat build site volunteered for the afternoon as well. Afterward, everyone gathered for a pizza party to share their experiences, reflect on the impact of their work and the graces they shared.
Many of the volunteers who participated in the Habitat for Humanity build expressed that working on a project that directly impacted the local community was an incredibly rewarding experience. Meeting and collaborating with the homeowners made the day especially meaningful, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved.
The next Service Saturday is on November 23, with opportunities to serve at several organizations. To get involved with weekly or monthly service, contact the Hunthausen Center team at hunthausencenter@carroll.edu.
