Saints women shutout Jamestown 4-0

DENVER – Michela Kueffler scored two goals and  Jamie Carter kept a clean sheet to lead Carroll College to a 4-0 victory over the University of Jamestown (N.D.) Saturday afternoon in a neutral site game in Denver.

The Saints took an early lead when Kaueffler scored in the 13th minute. She took a pass from Cassie Baldwin and sent it to the far post for the goal.

“We started off slow after a very long bus trip on Friday,” head coach Dave Thorvilson said. “Mic (Kaueffler) scored a great opening goal to get the energy going.”

Carroll college continued to pepper the frame, tallying seven shots in the first half but the 1-0 score held at the break.

The Saints stepped the pressure up in the second half. Kayla Bayer started things off with a goal in the 53rd minute, assisted by Madison Apsey.

In the 80th minute, Kueffler returned the favor of the earlier assist from Baldwin when she assisted on her goal. I chip over the head of the goalie.

Just three minutes later Kueffler received a pass from Cassidy Hammons and beat the goalie 1-on-1 to score her second goal of the game.

“In the second half, we picked up the pace of the game and our pressure on defense,” Thorvilson said. “It opened up the game and allowed put the game away.”

The Saints play again tomorrow against Johnson and Wales (Colo.) at 12 p.m.
