It is with great pleasure that I announce the recipient of the 2018 Carroll College Insignis Award, Mr. Ray Kuntz, '77.  I will have the honor and privilege of presenting Ray with this award on behalf of the college at our Founders Gala on November 2, 2018.

Over the past eight years, Ray has helped to transform Carroll College through his generosity and his leadership. Here are some important highlights:

Supporting Students' Education
While Ray's giving to Carroll has always been directed to the college's most important priorities, in all that he does for us, his utmost goal is to ensure that students are supported in their desire to attend Carroll College. Ultimately, it is through his scholarships that he makes it possible for students to realize this dream. Since 2016, Ray has provided scholarship support to 182 students from Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming for a total of $536,904. An additional $18,096 will be awarded this spring. These scholarships are funded through one of three sources: the Dr. Joyce K. Stewart Annual Scholarship, Persistence Cash Grants, and the Halo Scholarship (funded through the two new apartments).

New College Apartments
Through Ray's transformational support to build two new campus apartments, St. Alfred the Great and St. John Vianney, Ray is not only providing housing options for our students to live independently on campus, but the revenue from these two apartments is being directed to support student scholarships, known as the Halo Scholarships.

Chair of Development and Marketing Committee of the Board of Trustees
Ray served on the Board of Trustees at Carroll College from 2010-2018. During his tenure, he was the Chair of the Development and Marketing Committee and was pivotal in positioning the college for success in the Mind Body Spirit Campaign for Carroll and was a strong proponent to appropriately staff the Advancement Office to ensure the success of the campaign and on-going fundraising efforts. Ray also supported the college's marketing efforts to promote the college as broadly as possible and in the most compelling way to attract students to Carroll.

After four years, the college closed the Mind Body Spirit Campaign having raised $20.8M on a $20M goal that saw the addition of the Hunthausen Activity Center, All Saints Chapel, support to transform the Corette Library into a state-of-the-art Learning Commons and capital support for the Anthrozoology program's facility needs.

Ray was behind this and many other important initiatives at the college during his time on the Board of Trustees and we thank him for his leadership.

Influence from Carroll Professors Al Murray and John Downs
Ray is very grateful for his Carroll education and, in particular, for the faculty who give so much to students every day in shaping their experience in and out of the classroom. Two faculty hold a very special place in Ray's heart – Professors Al Murray and John Downs, for whom the two new apartments are named in their honor.

As noted on the dedication sign at the apartments, "Their (Al Murray and John Downs) tireless dedication and love for the students of this institution, combined with an amazing ability to teach, changed the lives of so many. May their generosity of spirit encourage all of us to be generous with what we have been given so that future generations may know the gift of this great institution."

This is the mantra of Ray Kuntz and through his transformational support of Carroll through his time, talent and treasure, Carroll College are proud to award Mr. Ray Kuntz, class of 1977, its highest honor, the 2018 Insignis Award.

When I told Ray he was chosen to receive the award, he shared with me, "I am greatly honored by this award but more importantly, I hope that I can help motivate others to fund additional scholarships so that many more students will have the ability to attend Carroll."

Please join me in congratulating Ray Kuntz. I hope you will consider joining us at our inaugural Founders Day Gala on November 2 when Ray will officially receive this award.
