October 21, 2011 QuickNotes

VIVE LA DIFFÉRENCE On a campus so thoroughly committed to year-round world service, the October 22 nationwide Make a Difference Day may seem like just another stint at the office. But, it's also a chance to raise the bar, even for us. Find a friend and magnify a good work by volunteering in tandem wherever there's a need: on campus or around town. For ideas on service orgs that need your help to help others, email Logan at volunteer@carroll.edu. One way to get involved: Tonight, October 21, is Carroll's Up 'Til Dawn Rockin' for a Cause, an all-night party fundraiser for the kids battling cancer at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Starting at 8 p.m. this evening, anyone who has already signed up, or newbies with one St. Jude fundraising letter "ask" in hand, can just jump into the fun in the upper Campus Center, where free food, entertainers and games galore are in the offing. Zumba, and ice cream social, dancing, Minute to Win It and karaoke are just a taste of the fun scheduled. And, the prizes! Anyone who writes 35 letters to friends and family asking their support of St. Jude will qualify for a $200 Visa gift card, and writing 50 letters puts you in the running for an iPad (you must be present to win). Tons of other prizes will go to lucky Rockin' participants, such as a large flat screen TV. At the event, local St. Jude patient James will be attending to cheer everyone on. For the Rockin' crowd and the community at large, our featured entertainer, Sean Bott, takes the stage at midnight for a free performance of his comedy mentalist stylings in the Campus Center. Sean has entertained and enthralled audiences worldwide with his innovative and distinctive comedy, which he's revealed on the Sci-Fi Channel, the WB, and on-air with Radio Disney. His movie credits include Alien Express and Heber Holiday.    STAGED EVENTS This is the final weekend for the Carroll Theatre Department production of The Women of Lockerbie, and no sooner is this run concluded than another spectacle lights the stage.
