WE DID IT!
We’ve made it to the end of the fall semester! While it was a semester unlike any we’ve ever seen, we are proud of our students for persevering and taking the necessary steps to keep the Carroll community safe and on campus for the last four months.
We look forward to taking what we have learned from this fall semester and improving on where we can for the spring. Thank you again for your patience, perseverance and belief in Carroll. For those of you who are not joining us for our first-ever Winter Session of classes – we wish you a restful break and a safe and enjoyable holiday season! Happy Thanksgiving!

MAKING THE MOST OF VIRTUAL COMPETITIONS
“The success was more than we dreamed possible,” said coach Brent Northup. “We’ve scaled back the program during this COVID year to avoid increasing stress, and to allow students to focus more completely on academics, which are more challenging in hybrid/online formats. Part of our team studied for finals which begins in six days, and skipped the tournament, and the ones that competed entered only half as many events as normal. In hockey terms, I felt like we scored a lot of short-handed goals. Very proud of them all.”
In virtual tournaments, the team spreads out over Carroll’s campus. In speech events, each student took a laptop to their own classroom, where they competed alone, virtually. A few students competed in dorm rooms, when the space was suitable – beds made, closets closed.
“I miss getting to come together as a team to celebrate each other and high fives,” said Ally Haegele of Helena. “But competing virtually has meant we get to virtually travel to tournaments we couldn't otherwise, so there are some trade-offs. We've made the best of it!” Read more here.

FANS FROM AFAR
"We have been working closely with the Lewis and Clark County Public Health Department and the Frontier Conference to establish hosting protocols to preserve the health of our community," Fighting Saints Athletic Director Charlie Gross said. "Carroll College hopes to do its part in keeping Helenans safe. At this time, it's in everyone's best interest if our loyal fans stay home and enjoy the basketball games from afar. We feel fortunate that our student-athletes are able to compete and look forward to seeing the PE Center bleachers once again filled with Purple and Gold when we can allow spectators to attend."
Carroll College Athletics will stream the games on its YouTube page and you can view the teams' upcoming schedules at www.carrollathletics.com.
INSPIRING SAINTS
The Saints are just one of 20 programs across non-NCAA Division 1 that made the list. The ranking is determined by the following criteria:
- Holistic development of student-athletes in the institution
- Academic achievement and support for the academic success of student-athletes
- Overall college experience for participants within the program
- Affordability/Graduation Rates/Student Satisfaction.
According to College Athletic Advisor, "the rankings present a starting point for a discussion about where student-athletes can excel as 'triple-threat' competitors (academics, athletics and socially) in college and in life."
