In Honor of Peace

“Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal.”– Martin Luther King, Jr.

In celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Carroll is hosting an evening lecture, “The United Nations: Diplomacy and Action over Weapons and Factions,” on Monday, January 20 featuring Sister Kathleen Ries, an UNANIMA International Board member and representative to the United Nations. Governor Steve Bullock will provide opening remarks.

Sister Kathleen will be speaking about the importance of the United Nations and its role in the promotion and protection of human rights for all.  The lecture will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the lower level of the Campus Center. This event is free and open to the public.

Sister Kathleen will be sharing her knowledge of the United Nations and her experience working in conjunction with the UN as a member of UNANIMA International. UNANIMA International is a non-governmental organization (NGO) advocating on behalf of women and children (particularly those living in poverty), immigrants and refugees, and the environment. Their work takes place primarily at the United Nations headquarters in New York, where they strive to educate and influence policymakers at the global level.

Congratulations to former Carroll College quarterback Tyler Emmert ('06) who was officially inducted into the NAIA Football Hall of Fame last Sunday at the American Football Coaches Association convention in Indianapolis.

Emmert, who started under center for the Saints from 2002-05, led Carroll to four straight NAIA national championships. He was a four-time All-American, three-time Frontier Conference Offensive MVP and two-time NAIA national player of the year during his college career. He also received the NAIA’s A.O. Duer Award as the country’s top student-athlete in 2004 and in 2005 he was recognized as a Scholar Athlete Award-winner by the National Football Foundation. The Draddy Award is given to just 16 athletes across all levels.

Shake, Rattle & Roll

We have received a lot of great stories from this infamous day but we'd love to hear from more of you!

February 2, 2014 marks the 25th Anniversary of the infamous train explosion of 1989.  Forty-eight freight cars broke away and rolled 9 miles back into Helena causing serious damage to Carroll facilities.

Do you remember? We want to hear about your memories. Were you a student or part of the Helena community? Do you remember the shake and the boom… and how cold it was?

We’ll feature the best anecdotes in some of our upcoming publications. Email us your stories at news@carroll.edu.
