Carroll’s Director of Financial Aid Janet Riis was selected for RMASFAA Ron Smout Award for Mentoring and Teaching at their annual conference last week. RMASFAA (Rocky Mountain Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators) presents this award to an individual who, over a sustained period of years, has provided mentoring and encouragement to a number of financial aid professionals in the RMASFAA Region.

This award is presented to an individual who, over a sustained period of years, has provided Mentoring and Encouragement to a number of financial aid professionals in the RMASFAA Region. This person’s guidance often is provided in a quiet, unofficial and unobtrusive manner, designed solely as a means of teaching and developing leaders among the Association’s members. The Board of Director’s selects a recipient via secret ballot at the winter Board Meeting, and the recipient is announced and given a plaque at the following Annual Conference.
This year’s recipient of the Ron Smout Award has volunteered time and talent in a variety of ways at the state, regional and national level. This person has also served on the Leadership Pipeline and offered her wisdom, encouragement and guidance to our future leaders. Some comments that were presented during the selection process included “her commitment to the field of financial aid is unparalleled and she always goes above and beyond in her role as leader and mentor” also “Without her encouragement and leadership, I never would have gained the confidence to consider taking on leadership roles”.
It is my honor to recognize Janet Riis as the recipient of the 2018 Ron Smout Award for Teaching and Mentoring.
