Committed to Our Veterans

Carroll has been designated as a top school in the Military Advanced Education 2015 Guide to Colleges & Universities, measuring best practices in military and veteran education. The guide was released in the December issue of Military Advanced Education magazine.

“Carroll College is honored to serve our service members, veterans and their families,” said Carroll College Veteran Service Coordinator Brandy Keely. The college’s designation in the guide is an opportunity to educate veterans about the quality of programs available at Carroll to help provide them with a seamless transition to higher education.

Carroll is proactive in developing initiatives that provide the support and resources needed to address the unique academic, financial, and social needs of veteran students and their families.

Moot Court Takes on Regionals

Four Carroll students recently competed in one of the most difficult Moot Court regional tournaments in the nation, the Western Regional Invitational Tournament held at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) on November 21-22, 2014.

First-time competitors, senior Cori Losing from Cut Bank and sophomore Jack McCarthy from Great Falls, made a strong showing competing against tough teams during preliminary rounds. Returning team members, seniors Tyler Skidmore from Idaho Falls and Bobbi Owen from Hammond, advanced to the second day of competition ranking high enough to earn a bye round in the first outbound, advancing straight to the octafinal round (top 16 teams). They lost a close round on a split decision (3-2) to the CSULB team who ended up winning this year’s regional tournament.

The team is coached by Adjunct Professor of Political Science, Tara Harris, class of 2000. "I'm proud of the hard work the students put into this year's problem. They are very talented and deserve to be at Nationals,” said Harris. “I tell them every year there is a component we can't control at competition and that component is luck. Luck wasn't on our side as far as the team we faced that knocked us out, but we couldn't have lost to a better team."

Won-Runda-Ful!

Dr. John Runda, a visiting professor in the Sociology department at Carroll, and his late wife Audrey, were recently honored at an event at the University of Mobile, where Dr. Runda served on the faculty and administration for a number of years.

At the Carroll College vs. University of Mobile men’s basketball game in Mobile on November 15, Dr. Runda received a plaque designating the university athletic facility as the Dr. John C. & Audrey M. Runda University of Mobile Baseball Center.

As is noted on the plaque, the center is named in appreciation for the couple’s faithfulness and dedication to the University of Mobile athletic program. A professor of sociology with extensive experience in gerontology and criminal justice, Dr. Runda joined the university faculty in 1995 and was named interim athletic director in charge of one of the largest athletic programs in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics in 1997. He retired in 2007. During that period and beyond, the couple’s commitment to University of Mobile athletics, and the baseball program in particular, set a standard of excellence that continues today.

Congratulations Dr. Runda - a well deserved honor!
