Victoria Kong, junior chemistry major at Carroll College from Portland, OR recently published on her research contributions this summer quantifying the solvation and partitioning of the organic dye Coumarin 152 in phospholipidmembranes.
Victoria spent the summer at Montana State University (MSU) in Bozeman MT working under the guidance of Professor Walker. Their work is important for understanding how biological membranes prevent unwanted chemicals from entering cells. The accumulation of unwanted chemicals in biological membranes is the basis for many important phenomena like bioaccumulation and biochemical signaling.
