Carroll Golfers Earn Academic Awards

Carroll College golfers Connor Hausauer (senior standing) and recently graduated Taylor Ratliff were named as Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). They were two of 11 NAIA athletes who received this distinction.

“Connor and Taylor both had exceptional seasons in the Frontier Conference and have helped to elevate our program.  We expect great success from them in the classroom, but this award reflects both their excellence in their sport as well as academically,” Carroll College head coach Bennett MacIntyre said.

In order to earn this recognition players must be a junior or senior academically, have competed in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participated in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, and have a stroke-average under 77.0 in NAIA.

Additionally, these student-athletes maintained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2. Athletes who receive Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status also need to display high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Hausauer claimed the Frontier Conference Tournament Championship this season and Ratliff was All-Frontier Conference and was a member of the 2012 team that reach the NAIA National Championship Golf Tournament.

Not only were Hausauer and Ratliff honored, but also The Carroll College Men’s Golf Team earned All-Academic Team recognition for the 2013-2014 academic year.

The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) named teams that received All-Academic Team honors from each division.

In order to be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors a college or university is required to submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year. In order to receive this distinction golf teams needed a combined GPA of 3.0 or higher. There were 141 teams this year that submitted GPAs in order to be recognized for All-Academic standing.

“This team award is a great example of the expectations of Carroll College student-athletes.  They are exemplary representatives of the school, working hard in the classroom and on the field of play, or on the golf course in our case,” MacIntyre said.
