HELENA – Carroll College is partnering with St. Andrew School to provide educational space for their high school classes this coming academic year. In addition to classrooms, the students, under supervision of their teachers, will also have access to the chapel, library and dining hall.
“We are excited to partner with St Andrew School to help expand their capabilities. This is a great example of two Catholic institutions coming together to provide quality Catholic educational opportunities to Helena students,” said Carroll College President, Dr. John Cech.
St. Andrew School is a Catholic and Classical school located on the west side of Helena serving students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The school experienced an influx of new elementary-age students this past academic year which has exceeded their classroom capacity.
Leveraging their existing relationship, Carroll and St. Andrew formed this unique collaboration to provide temporary assistance while St. Andrew determines next steps for expansion of their school. This is a one-year arrangement for the academic year beginning in August.
“We are looking forward to providing an opportunity for our high school students to have a view into what college life may look like, while under the supervision and safety of their teachers,” said St. Andrew School Principal, GG Grotbo. “For those who will eventually attend college, this experience may alleviate some of the natural anxiety about being on a college campus for the first time. Because Carroll students have such integrity and a strong faith, they will be amazing examples for our students.”
In addition to being exposed to the college atmosphere, the students will be able to take a college-level biology class for credit and will also benefit from potential guest lecture opportunities by Carroll College faculty
“We have often had St. Andrew students take classes on our campus through our Early Access program so we are very well acquainted with the high caliber of student that St. Andrew attracts,” said Cech. “This experience will help them to further envision themselves as college students on Carroll’s campus. Couple this with our existing free room grant program for graduates of Catholic high schools, and Carroll becomes a very enticing option for college.”
“This collaboration is a natural extension of our long-standing relationship with Carroll,” said Grotbo. “Being that Carroll is a Catholic, diocesan college in the liberal arts tradition, many of our previous graduates have chosen to enroll at Carroll. In fact, over the years, we have had a number of Carroll alumni and instructors teach at our school.”
