HELENA – Carroll College senior Emily Funseth was recently awarded the 2024 Montana Student Volunteer Award for exemplifying the spirit of civic engagement and volunteerism. The award is presented through a partnership between the Governor’s Office of Community Service and Montana Campus Compact campuses.
Honorees of this annual award are college students across the state who demonstrate dedication to service in their communities while pursuing a college degree or certificate. Funseth was one of eighteen Montana college students statewide to receive this award.
A senior Sociology and Criminology major and Psychology and Gender Studies minor from Great Falls, Mont., Emily's commitment to service and volunteerism while at Carroll has been exemplary. During her four years at Carroll, Emily has demonstrated unwavering dedication to both her academic and athletic commitments, actively participating in the Helena community and serving as a member of Carroll’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for two years. She has proven herself as a dependable leader and a positive role model, embodying the spirit of Carroll College.
Emily has also been an active participant in the Carroll College Special Olympics club, which meets weekly throughout the academic year. Her leadership in SAAC has been instrumental in providing meals to over 90 families during Thanksgiving weekend for the past three years. Additionally, Emily has contributed her efforts to the Carroll Food Pantry, serving students, faculty, and staff, and has been a key organizer in local blood drives for the last two years.
In February, she led an event to celebrate Women's and Girls in Sport, encouraging donations of sanitary products, toiletries, and clothing to support our local YWCA and the Friendship Center. In collaboration with local community members and Sodexo, she also arranged for free treats for contributors.
