Audition details
For your video audition, you only need to record one song.
Select one of the following that will best showcase you:
- Choose one of the cuts below from the Little Women musical itself if there is a role you are interested in. You may choose another song from the show that is not listed here. Karaoke tracks on YouTube are easy to locate for these.
- Jo March (mezzo): "Astonishing" (from 3:04, starting with "Here I go..."to the end) or
- "Our Finest Dreams" (Beginning to "moment Mother cries", please do Jo's dialogue)
- Female Roles (soprano/mezzo): "Five Forever" (from the start to :54, ending after "five forever from now on.")
- Marmee/Aunt March (mezzo/soprano): "Here Alone"
- Male Roles (baritone): "How I Am" (from 2:03, starting with "And now she expects me..." to the end)
OR...
A musical theatre song in the style of the show. Musicals in the style of this show are Anastasia, Secret Garden, Jane Eyre, Anne of Green Gables, A Little Princess.
Recording guidelines
- Chose a spot with a non-distracting background
- Record horizontally (like a movie) versus vertically (like a TikTok). The video should capture your head and torso (no need for full body) and try to capture yourself straight on (versus having the angle going up your nose)
- Introduce yourself and the song you have chosen
- Record 1 minute of your song using a karaoke track or one of the songs above which might be longer. You must have a backing track with your audition. Do not sing a cappella.
- Check your video before sending it in (Is the track loud enough? Is the angle cutting off your head?)
- Have fun! Yes, audition videos can be terrifying to create, but what we most want to see is you and your personality. You will not be judged by the song you choose!
- We will review the video and send you a callback request if there is something more we need to see from you. Your job is only to show us yourself and what you can do - we'll take it from there :-)
- Upload your video as "Unlisted" to YouTube and add the link to your Audition Form before May 29th. Here is an example of an audition video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Idr4VhiMJPU
Additional information
Due to the academic calendar, the rehearsal process will be very quick. We are holding auditions early to give you time to prepare. If you are cast, specifically in a lead role, it is our expectation that you will not wait until the first day of rehearsal to begin learning your role. We need you to arrive as prepared as possible so we can focus on putting the show on its feet.
If you need help with coaching your part, information on who to reach out to will be given after casting is complete. Our Music Director, Liz Adler, has graciously offered to work with anyone over Zoom or in-person over the summer.
