The Program
The neuroscience minor here at Carroll expands on our student’s intellect, imagination, and social awareness. Not only does neuroscience provide support for students continuing to professional and pre-professional programs, but it also encourages students to question and think about how biology can influence human thought and behavior. For our minor program we want our students to embody the diversity of the neuroscience field by requiring they take foundational courses in biology and chemistry, as well as courses in psychology, mathematics, computer programming, and physics.
Neuroscience
Details
Neuroscience is becoming an ever-more popular field of study, bridging psychology and biology. It is particularly compelling because it encompasses a wide variety of disciplines. Neuroscientists typically have backgrounds in chemistry, biology, psychology, physics, computer science, and mathematics.
About the Program
Why Neuroscience at Carroll?
Students continuing to graduate school, occupational therapy school and medical school are more likely to be asked to take classes with a neuroscience focus prior to applying. Additionally, recent studies have popularized neuroscience and more students are interested in receiving additional training in the biological basis of behavior. We believe that neuroscience fits with many aspects of the College’s mission.
The Possibilities
The majority of students in the neuroscience minor will primarily be focused on attending graduate school. However, there is a market for research assistants and medical technicians to have a strong background in neuroscience and computer science. Furthermore, more and more students in the pre-medicine fields are interested in obtaining a background in neuroscience to help better prepare them for a career in medicine.
