INSTRUCTIONS FOR DEPENDENT STUDENTS

This Dependent Student Aid Estimator is designed for U.S. citizens (or permanent residents) who are single students and are dependent on their parents for support. If you do not meet these criteria, please complete the Independent Student Aid Estimator, or call us for more information.

The information on this form will be used to estimate your eligibility for student financial aid for the 2009-2010 school year. We have made it as brief and easy as possible. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), that you will eventually complete, collects a great deal more information with much more detailed instructions. If your financial circumstances are at all unusual or complicated, please contact us to find out how to complete this form and still get a good estimate.

Divorced, Separated, or Remarried Parents

The federal government has established detailed rules about whose resources must be reported in cases of divorce, separation, and remarriage. If your parents are divorced or separated, answer the questions about the parent you lived with more during the past 12 months. (If you did not live with one parent more than the other, give answers about the parent who provided more financial support during the past 12 months, or during the most recent year that you actually received support from a parent.) If this parent is remarried as of today, answer the questions on this form about the parent and the person whom your parent married (stepparent).

Foreign Tax Filers

If your parents filed a tax return in a foreign country, check the box marked “Form 1040” under question 16. Convert all figures in questions 18 through 25 to U.S. dollars, using the exchange rate that is in effect today.

PLEASE NOTE:

This estimator cannot be completed by the Carroll College Financial Aid Office without submission of:
1) A college GPA, or
2) A high school GPA and at least one test score.

Please make a copy of this for your records.
