Coming off two very successful seasons, which both ended with Frontier Conference championships, coach Thorvilson has amased a 29-9-2 record leading the Saints. With 22 returning players, Coach Thorvilson has the team focused on making it a perfect three-for-three. Since joining the team for the 2003 campaign, the Saints improved from 4-7-4 in 2002 to 14-4-1 just three seasons later in 2005. Thorvilson helped the team finish ranked #2 regionally and qualify for their first NAIA Regional Tournament in 2003. Furthermore, he helped build upon the team’s success in 2004 as they finished nationally ranked (25th) and qualified for their second consecutive regional tournament. In 2005, the team continued their improvement as they finished ranked 19th and advanced to their second consecutive regional final. 2006 saw the Saints final ranking move up to 12th in the country and finished the season against Lee University in a 2-1 loss. The 2007 season was a season to bench mark against the future of the Saint’s soccer program. The team finished 17-2-2 and lost in the ‘Elite 8’ to the 2006 National Champions, Lindsey Wilson. Last season the Saints compiled a 12-7 record, captured their second straight conference title, and advanced to the finals of the conference title game.
Thorvilson, a native of Helena, started his college career at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA. After two seasons, he took a year off before transferring to Montana State Billings to complete his collegiate career. He then became the assistant and goalkeeper coach for both the men’s and women’s teams at MSU-Billings. After two seasons, Thorvilson became the assistant at the University of Mary where he earned a Masters of Business Administration degree and helped both programs to national tournament bids (men in 2001 and women in 2002). In addition, Thorvilson coached two All-Region goalkeepers with one garnering All-America honors as well.
Thorvilson holds coaching licenses from both the NSCAA and USSF. He and his wife Amber are proud parents of their daughters Taylor & Paige Thorvilson.

This will be Els' fourth season with the Saints soccer program. Els' other coaching experience includes head coach with Helena Arsenal, serving as the club's goalkeeping liaison, and directing Arsenal's youth academy for fall 2009. Els previously coached at Saint Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire and with a variety of Olympic Development Program teams in her native New England. As a player, Els was an All-American goalkeeper at Middlebury College, a NCAA Division III program in Vermont, and played semi-pro with the Vermont Voltage. Els holds an NSCAA Advanced National coaching license.
Coach’s Comments: "Els will begin her forth year as an assistant with Carroll College and she has been with me from my first year as the head coach of this program. I have watched her develop our keepers into well-rounded players and be able to make good coaching points to the team. Her time and effort has not gone unnoticed and she has been a key to our recent success."
After spending many years watching Carroll College soccer from the stands, Gerry (pronounced GAIR-ree) Scheetz will begin his third season as an assistant coach for the Saints. He has thirteen years experience coaching twenty teams in the local Helena area, including Arsenal, YMCA, and Vigilante youth soccer programs. During that time, two of his teams have finished their season as state champions and one finished their season at the Far West Regional tournament. He holds an NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma and a USSF National D License. As a software engineer, Gerry and his wife Stacy work for the same technology company in Helena.
Coach’s Comments: “Gerry will begin his third season with the Saints and has donated his time to our program while asking for nothing in exchange. Gerry continues to learn the college game and is a big help to both me and the team.”
After four years in the starting lineup for the Saints, Katie will trade in her cleats for a spot on the sideline. Joseph has had an impressive career at Carroll raking up two 1st Team All-Conference and Academic All-Conference selections as well as being the first player in school history to be nominated as a 2nd Team All-American two years in a row. Katie will finish her nursing degree this spring.
Coach’s Comments: “We will miss her in our defensive unit this fall but her transition into coaching will benefit our entire team.” “I am excited to have Katie join the coaching ranks. Her ability on the field should make her see the game and share her experiences."
