Carroll, Westminster play to scoreless tie in soccer

SALT LAKE CITY - For the second time in as many days, the Carroll College women's soccer team battled heat and a determined opponent for 110 minutes, yet was unable to secure a victory.

The 17th-ranked Saints and Westminster College played to a scoreless tie on Sunday in their Frontier Conference opener.

This is the first tie of the season for the Griffins (4-7-1, 1-0-1 Frontier), and snaps a four-game losing streak. Carroll (5-2-1) is winless in its last three- all coming on the road - and has scored just two goals in that span.

Westminster created several chances for itself, especially in the second half. Westminster finished with a 16-11 advantage in shots, including a 12-4 edge in the second 45 minutes. Lindsay Bekken recorded seven saves to earn her first career shutout.

The Saints return home for games against Rocky Mountain College on Friday (4 p.m.) and Great Falls on Sept. 30 (4 p.m.).
