Helena-MT. Next season at Carroll College Men’s basketball games, if you take a good look at the Carroll bench, you might think your seeing double.
Carroll Head Men’s Basketball Coach Brandon Veltri has announced the hiring of associate head coach and sports information director Brock Veltri. Brock, the identical twin brother of Brandon, joins the Saints’ staff via Seattle Pacific University, a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference an NCAA Division II institution.
“We are extremely pleased to be able to hire someone of Brock’s caliber,” said Veltri, (Brandon). “He has over 10 years of experience in collegiate athletics and is a proven coach and outstanding recruiter. He will be able to step in and make a difference at our institution from day one.”
Brock Veltri has spent the past five seasons as head assistant coach on the Seattle Pacific staff. He served as SPU’s head recruiting coordinator, oversaw in-season scouting of opponents, skill development efforts and was in charge of scheduling and travel for the Falcons.
“Brandon and I have been teammates all our lives,” said Brock Veltri. “Working together is something that we are accustomed to; it is a natural fit. I am looking forward to helping him establish his program at Carroll as we continue to build on the success that he and Gary Turcott have had over the years.”
During Veltri's time at SPU the Falcons had a combined record of 104-43 and qualified for the NCAA tournament each season. During that span the Falcons either hit or exceeded the twenty win mark three times. In the 2006 and 2007 campaigns, the Falcons won back-to-back GNAC Conference Championships, and advanced to the NCAA "Final Four" in 2006. Over the past four seasons SPU has had 13 All-Conference Team members, six All-West region selections, as well as two All-America honorees.
“I value the combination of quality academics, premier athletics, and faith based community,” added Veltri. “Carroll offers this combination, which gives us the opportunity to work with a higher caliber of student athlete. My wife Jenny and I are excited to be part of the Carroll family and the Helena Community.”
Prior to Seattle Pacific, Veltri spent two years in a similar position with Scottsdale Community College in Arizona, where he also served as the schools Director of Sports Information for two years. Veltri began his career as an assistant for his alma mater, Judge Memorial Catholic High School in Salt Lake City, under legendary Head Coach Jim Yerkovich, who has recorded over 600 victories in the past 40 years as well as 3 state titles. Veltri spent one season on the staff at Idaho State University under then head coach Doug Oliver, while completing his master’s degree in athletic administration.
