Centennial Exhibits in the Carroll Art Gallery

As part of Carroll College's Centennial Celebration, throughout the year 2009-2010 academic year, the Carroll Art Gallery will be featuring a series of three exhibits including professional artwork by the college's graduates, plus displays of works from the private collections of the college's faculty, staff and patrons. Entitled "Carroll Connected," the series will begin with its first installment, "Carroll Connected: Alumni,"opening on August 24 and continuing until October 2. The first installment will showcase ceramics, sculpture and painting by Carroll alumni who work as professional artists from coast to coast. All artists in the show hold Carroll bachelor's degrees in a variety of disciplines, from nursing to English and history, and others. The second and third exhibits will include selections from the art collections of faculty, administrators, board members and patrons. Dates and more details on the final two exhibits in the series will be announced later. The gallery, located in St. Charles Hall, is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays; closed weekends and college holidays. Admission is free. Call 406-447-4302 for information.

Build Creative Skills

The Visual Art program at Carroll College gives students basic training in various media, opportunites for visual expression, and greater appreciation for visual arts. Classes provide quality instruction that challenges students and simultaneously encourages success for those with minimal exposure. Expanding appreciation of visual arts and enhancing lives through creative experiences are the overriding goals of the Art Department.

As a service department there is no degree or minor in Visual Art at Carroll. However minors in both Combined Arts and Arts Management have recently been added. We offer classes in Ceramics, Drawing, Acrylic Painting, Watercolor Painting, Introduction to Art, Art Appreciation and Photography. There are independent study and practicum opportunities for those interested. Students can study with artists from the internationally acclaimed Archie Bray Foundation, work at the Holter Museum of Art or participate in internship and cooperative education opportunities.

Student art shows are regularly displayed in our new gallery. Travelling exhibitions are occasionally offered, as well as work by faculty and regional artists.

Through studio practice, students are exposed to the history of human artistic endeavor. They experience active learning through tactile and visual means. Every day new problems in aesthetics, technique, design and craftsmanship challenge them. The knowledge gained through the study and practice of art offers lifelong enrichment.

Our Goal

Expanding awareness, understanding and appreciation of visual arts and enhancing lives through creative experiences.
