Carroll College Performing Arts Schedule for 2008-09

We are pleased to announce a rich and eclectic season. Once again we offer something every month classes are in session. Join us for theatre, music and dance!

August: Improv Nights in the Merton.  Michael McNeilly will lead our Improv Troupe in performances throughout the semester in the Merton Studio and at Montana schools.

October & November"The Producers" by Mel Brooks and Tom Meehan. This is Mel Brooks' classic cult comedy film. Now as a big Broadway musical, The Producers once again sets the standard for modern, outrageous, in-your-face humor. It is a truly "boffo" hit, winning a record twelve Tony® Awards and wowing capacity crowds night after night. Ed Noonan, Stage Director & Dr. Robert Psurny, Musical Director. This is our Fall Mainstage production presented in collaboration with the Helena Theatre Company at the Myrna Loy Center.

December: We offer three Performing Arts events this month!

  1. "A Carroll Family Christmas Program" Performing artists join forces to celebrate the season. Since it includes music, a recitation and a radio play, we may broadcast it on KROL, or any interested local station.  Dates: Dec 4-6 in the PAC. Admission is $7 or $5 and a food item for Helena Food Share.

     "Yes Virginia, There is a Santa Claus" by Andrew J. Fenady. A radio play presented live onstage.
    "A Childs' Christmas in Wales" by Dylan Thomas. A recitation by Mr. Michael McNeilly, Professor of Theatre.
    "The Carroll College Choirs"- sing seasonal selections under the direction of Dr. Robert Psurny.

  2. "A Night of One Acts" presented by the students in the Directing class. We don't know what they will pick, but count on being amazed. Dec 10 - Merton Studio. Free Admission.
  3. "Christmas Concert at the Cathedral of St. Helena" by the Carroll College Choirs will be presented at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday December 14. The program will feature musical selections highlighting the mystery of Christmas. The featured work will be Charpentier's Messe de Minuit pour Noël. January:  "American Roulette" by Chris Evans, a Montana Playwright. Revolving around a high school shooting, this is a series of vignettes about the people involved and affected. This is a Senior Showcase featuring Carroll senior Jocelyn Bjornstad as Director.  This is planned to be a production with students from Helena, Capital & Boulder High Schools.
Dates: Jan 30 - 31, in the PAC. 

February: "As You Like It" by William Shakespeare. When faced with the harsh trials of the civilized world, some of Shakespeare's most likable characters seek refuge in the sylvan "greenworld" setting of the Forest of Arden. There they are free to play and explore love and romance, wile they ponder the mysteries of life and the vagaries of society.  We invite you to join them and escape the doldrums of Winter with our Mainstage production directed by Chuck Driscoll, Carroll College Theatre Director.
Dates:  PAC.  Feb 19 - 22, Feb 26 - Mar 1. In the PAC.

March:  "When the Rainbow Bends" by Joan Jewett. This is a Senior Showcase featuring Carroll senior Ryan Danielson as Director.  Ryan has chosen a powerful story about the lives of three people when one of them contracts AIDS. Mrs.Jewett, the author lost her son to AIDS.
Dates: Mar 27 - 28 in the Merton Studio.

April: We offer two events this month:

  1. "The Lion in Winter" by James Goldman. This is a Senior Showcase featuring Carroll senior Ryan Pfeiffer. This is work for mature audiences about the intrigues of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine, and the issue of succession to the throne.
    Dates: April 3 & 4 in the Merton Studio.
  2. Our Theatre for Children play. The series will continue. We are in the process of seeking a director and a wonderful play. If you are interested in applying, contact Chuck Driscoll at 447-4309.
    Dates: April 17-18 & 24-25 in the PAC. School matinees April 21-24

May: "Spring Dance Recital" - Sallyanne Mulcahy, Artist in Residence, Choreographs Carroll College Dance students in a recital, as we revive our long lost Spring Recital. We don't know what they will chose to dance, but we know it will be fabulous!

Reservations/Tickets/Prices/Policies/Theatres

At Carroll College we offer different types of shows, in different theatres. Here is how to decide what you want to see, and where and when to go see it. If you still have questions call the Director of Theatre, at 447-4309.

 

Our Shows

Our Mainstage Shows feature full length plays & musicals presented to our highest standards. They are presented in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) or The Myrna Loy Center (MLC).

  1. Thursday -Saturday. Sunday matinees are at 3:00
    • The Producers Tickets: $16 General Admission @ MLC
      Students/Seniors $10
      Carroll Faculty and Staff $7
    • Curtain up at 7:30 pm. Sunday Matinees are at 3:00.
    • As You Like It  Tickets: $11 General Admission @ PAC
      Students/Seniors $8.00
      Carroll Faculty and Staff FREE
      Carroll Students FREE on Thursday and Sunday.
    • Curtain up 8:00 pm. Sunday Matinees are at 3:00.


Theatre for Children Shows.
Theatre students in the Acting/Directing program and Design/Stagecraft program present shows that are around an hour in length, with themes appropriate for young audiences. They are presented in the Performing Arts Center (PAC).
Curtain is at 7:00 to allow for bedtime. School Matinees are at 1:00 pm
  • Tickets: $6 General Admission
    Children/Seniors $4
    Carroll Faculty and Staff FREE
    Carroll Students are FREE on Fridays.

Student Showcases. Seniors in the Acting/Directing program showcase their abilities as Directors, Actors or Playwrights. They are usually presented in the Merton Acting Studio in the basement of the CUBE. Curtain is usually at 7:00.

Our Theatre spaces

Old North - The Performing Arts Center  (PAC) does not have assigned seating available, nor can we hold seats. Arrive early for the first choice of seats, we open the auditorium 1/2 hour before the show begins.  We do not pre-sell tickets, purchase the night of performance. If you have any questions about the show or our theatre  call our part-time Box Office representatives at 447-4304, and they will call you back as soon as possible.  Show Night Parking- is available in the named spaces outside the theatre, in the lobby and in the adjacent lots east of the theatre.

 Merton & Davis Studios - These spaces have an open seating policy, first-come-first-served. As studio spaces they have temporary seats only. Capacity is limited to about 70 chairs/audience members. Come early to sit in a chair! No late arrivals admitted. Show Night Parking is available in the lot of the CUBE.
